Artist Statement

The parallels in structure and form between the clandestine nano/micro-world and the macro-world in which we live are the focus of my work. By utilizing some of the most advanced instrumentation available for nanotechnology research, I am able to reveal these unseen landscapes with extraordinary detail. The physical processes exploited in the scanning electron microscope bear little similarity to conventional photography, yet the vivid three-dimensional images could easily be mistaken for black and white photographs. The subjects of much of my work are objects from the natural world, which exhibit remarkable fine structure at high magnification. However, I choose to eschew any conventional scientific presentation and instead strive to create a sense of depth and proportion which has an immediate aesthetic impact.
